AMRONE
Our Dogs
If you are interested in adopting one of these beautiful dogs, do not have children under the age of ten and live in New England, please review how our adoption process works and then fill out an adoption application. We will be happy to work with you to decide if a rescue malamute is right for you.

Please be aware that we place many dogs each year and care deeply that we find each a safe, loving and permanent home for each one of them. All AMRONE dogs are spayed or neutered updated on vaccinations and are usually checked by a vet while in our care. At times rescue may have a female that has no known history and we have the vet look for a scar to see if the female was spayed. This is not always accurate but we feel it is better than putting the dog thru exploratory surgery. Females should be monitored closely just in case (if your female is found to have not been spayed, rescue will reimburse you for your cost of the spay). Other females have been spayed while in our care so we are 100% sure of the spay.

We place dogs in homes that have at least a 4 foot fenced yard, a kennel run or a plan to exercise their malamute on a leash. Unfortunately, trolleys, tie outs or invisible fencing are not acceptable for our malamutes. We only place dogs in homes without children or with children over the age of ten. If you have cats or other small animals it may take us some time to find a dog that will suit your needs.

We usually have a range of dogs in our care ranging from young dogs up to senior dogs.

Most of our rescued dogs are implanted with a microchip, a permanent form of id, prior to placement. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin between the dog's shoulder blades. It contains an ID number which is keyed to our name, address and phone number.

We register the dogs with AKC Companion Animal Recovery (CAR), which is a nationwide, 24 hour network. The contact remains Alaskan Malamute Rescue after adoption. Should the dog get lost, and end up in a shelter or pound, or be brought to a vet clinic as a found dog, and the dog is scanned, we will be contacted by CAR, and the dog will be returned to us immediately, and through us, to the adopter.

Since we are all volunteers, we help with rescue while dealing with our day jobs and caring for our families and our own dogs. Please understand that we will get to your adoption application as soon as we can! Once you fill out this application it will be added to our database and we will respond to it in the order we receive it. Please be patient, at times we can respond the next day, but sometimes it might not be for several weeks!

The Adoption Process

AMRONE receives dogs from shelters, pounds, and from owners. The dogs are taken into foster care by a volunteer. AMRONE provides veterinary care, which includes:
  • a physical check-up
  • test for heartworm
  • heartworm preventative
  • spay or neuter (if necessary)
  • updates on vaccinations (if necessary)

The foster volunteer evaluates the dog (temperament, personality, training, and special needs) to help decide upon the best adoptive home. AMRONE places it's dogs ONLY into carefully screened, permanent homes which meet AMRONE criteria.

AMRONE reserves the right to choose the most appropriate adoptive home for each dog in its care. AMRONE reserves the right to refuse any application if the home is incompatible with the needs of a rescue dog. Applying to adopt a malamute does not in any way guarantee that a dog will be placed with you. All decisions by AMRONE regarding placement of dogs are final.

AMRONE does not place dogs in households with small children. Although we realize this may exclude some great adoptive homes, it is our policy. A fenced yard or kennel run is usually required. Adopters must be physically able to handle a large, strong animal. Adopters are STRONGLY recommended to attend obedience training with their new malamutes. All dogs are spayed or neutered before being placed in homes.

After filling out an adoption application, prospective adopters are screened by AMRONE volunteers, will have references checked, and screening may include a home visit. If a possible fit between dog and adopter is decided by AMRONE, the adopter visits the dog, and meets with the foster volunteer.

Once a match is decided, the adopter must sign an adoption contract with AMRONE. An adoption fee is required. The fee is usually $200, of which $25 is refunded if you attend an obedience class with your adopted dog within 3 months of adoption. Adoption fees are not tax deductible.

After adoption, we are always available to help with questions or concerns.
